Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Site Supervisor for our Power Transmission and Distribution projects, based across the UK with a role in New Deer, Aberdeen. The position involves leading site teams on 45‑hour weeks, coordinating plant, equipment, and subcontractors, and maintaining strict safety standards.

You will drive continuous improvement, manage permits, and ensure all works are carried out to programme while promoting safe working practices and robust communication with the construction

Qualifications

• Experience in the construction and delivery of overhead line, cabling or substation schemes.
• Experience supervising subcontractors and ensuring safe working practices.
• Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team for success.
• Effective communication and relationship management skills.
• Holds a current driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Construction Manager / Site Engineer to requisition plant and equipment with advance notice.
• Supervise site operatives and subcontractors to deliver works on time.
• Ensure all personnel have authorisations to operate plant and receive permits.
• Confirm external services are in place before site activities start.
• Maintain accurate daily progress and timesheets for operatives and equipment.
• Assist the Engineer with weekly inspections of plant and lifting equipment.
• Ensure Permit to Work near existing services is correctly carried out.
• Lead Zero Harm and drive SHEQ improvements across projects.
• Ensure health, safety and welfare of all personnel under your control.

Based across the UK on our projects you will work on our Large Infrastructure within our Power Transmission and Distribution Projects.

The location of this role is New Deer, Aberdeen

Hours of work per week - 45

What you'll be doing

• Liaise with the Construction Manager and/or Site Engineer to ensure a timely requisition for sufficient plant and equipment is made, giving adequate notice to Resources.
• Supervising site operatives and subcontrators
• Ensure all site personnel have the correct authorisations to operate plant or receive permits.
• Ensure that all externally sourced services (Trak way, footbridges etc) are in place prior to site activities starting.
• Be responsible for the operatives time sheets being filled in correctly, showing the daily progress, operatives names, rates, works numbers, hours worked, plant and vehicles (hired and BB owned) utilised and work carried out.
• Assist the Engineer in carrying out weekly inspections of all plant, lifting equipment and recording on the appropriate forms.
• Ensure Permit to Work near Existing Services documentation is clearly and correctly carried out for all groundbreaking activities related to construction works
• Leadership of Zero Harm and drive for continuous improvement across SHEQ within projects
• Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all persons under your control

Who we're looking for

The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential

• Previous experience of the construction and delivery of Overhead Line, Cabling or Substation schemes up to 400kV
• Experience of supervising subcontractors
• Experience in implementing safe systems of work
• Effective Communication Skills
• Excellent relationship management skills
• Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team for success
• Holds a current driving license

The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable

• Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and financial control
• Good understanding of current safety legislation
