Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a dedicated Site Engineer for its Power Transmission & Distribution team in Scotland (Lochay). You’ll join a structured 13-week Upskilling Programme to accelerate growth with training in safety, digital skills, management and technical documentation.

You’ll work under the Project Manager, supervising site operations, coordinating resources and ensuring quality and safety on live projects. The role rewards hands‑on leadership with clear progression.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a HNC Electrical and a full valid UK driving licence.
  • Experience working in a construction engineering environment.
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work and risk management.
  • Good understanding of project delivery, technical information and site-based coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, supervising and delivering site engineering tasks from design through to commissioning and handover.
  • Interpret technical drawings and solutions, brief delivery teams clearly and ensure safe, efficient, on‑time project execution.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager, internal teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to keep delivery on track with programme, cost, quality and safety.

About The Role

Balfour Beatty is seeking dedicated and skilled Site Engineer to join our Power T&D Team, based in Scotland (Lochay). Join our Power T&D business as a Site Engineer and benefit from our comprehensive 13-week Upskilling Programme, designed to accelerate your professional growth and equip you with the latest industry competencies. This structured programme blends core and mandatory training, including health and safety, first aid, and digital skills. With advanced modules in project management, technical documentation, environmental sustainability, and commercial awareness. Through immersive learning environments, hands‑on technical sessions, and exposure to cutting‑edge digital tools, you’ll gain practical expertise in supervising complex site operations, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with the highest standards of quality and safety.

The programme also features dedicated project shadowing and a final capability assessment, providing you with real‑world experience and the confidence to lead teams on live projects. You’ll develop key skills in leadership, planning, incident response, and stakeholder communication, all while building a strong foundation for future career progression within the organisation. By the end of the 13 weeks, you’ll be fully prepared to take on the challenges of a Site Engineer role, with a clear pathway for ongoing development and advancement in the Power T&D sector.

What you'll be doing

You’ll play a key role in the successful delivery of projects from planning and design through to commissioning, handover and close out. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider project team, you’ll interpret technical solutions and drawings, brief delivery teams clearly, and help ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and right first time. You’ll also monitor progress, maintain accurate project records, support reporting and reviews, and coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to keep delivery on track in line with programme, cost, quality and safety requirements.

Who we're looking for

To join us in this role you will need to have a minimum of HNC Electrical and must hold a full valid UK driving licence.

  • Experience working in a construction engineering environment
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work and managing risk and change
  • Good understanding of project delivery, technical information and site-based coordination
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative, flexible mindset
  • Awareness of commercial and contractual considerations
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion and continuous personal development
  • A formal qualification in construction or engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • CSCS and SSSTS (or equivalent), or working towards them

The training course is to start mid September and you must be available to attend all 13 weeks of the training programme.
