Job description

Site / Section Engineer – Civil Engineering

Salary: £35-£45,000 + Pkg

Location: Plymouth

Region: South West

We are currently seeking a Site / Section Engineer to work for a main Civil Contractor specializing in various Civil, Marine, and Flood defence engineering sectors across the UK. The role is based near Plymouth on a project lasting approximately 24 months, with potential for future work within the region.

Our client is looking for someone to join their team on this prestigious project, offering opportunities for progression and development within the industry.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in large civil schemes, with experience in heavy civils, tunnelling, earthworks, highways, or rail infrastructure.

Responsibilities as Section Engineer:

  1. Act as the main technical adviser on site for subcontractors, craftspeople, and operatives within your area of responsibility.
  2. Develop safe systems of work, method statements, and quality documentation such as ITPs and QRPs.
  3. Produce, monitor, and control budgets for sections of work scope.
  4. Ensure all materials used and work performed meet specifications.
  5. Oversee the selection and requisition of materials.
  6. Manage, monitor, and interpret contract design documents.
  7. Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and the workforce involved in the project.
  8. Attend regular progress meetings to update the team.
  9. Manage daily site activities, supervise site labor force, junior site engineers, and subcontractors.
  10. Plan work and organize plant and site facilities to meet deadlines.
  11. Oversee quality control and health and safety on site.
  12. Prepare reports as required.
  13. Resolve technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.

Required Qualifications / Expertise:

  • MEng/BEng/Foundation Degree/BTEC/Degree in Civil Engineering
  • CSCS certification
