Job summary

Thorn Baker Group is recruiting a Site Manager for a retail fit-out project in London. The role runs on a full-time contract basis, starting 5 October for approximately six weeks, with strong leadership and hands-on site management required to deliver safely, on time and within budget.

You will manage day-to-day operations, coordinate subcontractors, ensure safety compliance, track progress, and maintain comprehensive site records while liaising with clients and designers to resolve issues

Qualifications

• SMSTS certification is essential.

• Full, clean driving licence is essential.
• Minimum Level 3 construction qualification or higher is required.

Responsibilities

Salary: £33 - £38 per hour

We are looking for a Site Manager to oversee a retail fit out project in London. The role commences on 5th October and is expected to last for six weeks. This is a full-time contract position requiring strong leadership and hands-on management of the site to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Job Duties

• Manage all day-to-day site operations and coordinate subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including site inspections and risk assessments.
• Monitor progress against programme and manage resources efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Maintain accurate site records including daily reports, site diaries, and quality control documentation.
• Oversee the retail fit out works, ensuring high standards of workmanship and adherence to design specifications.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and designers to resolve any site issues promptly.
• Manage site logistics, including deliveries, storage, and waste management.
• Conduct regular site meetings to communicate progress and address any concerns.
• Ensure all site personnel hold the necessary qualifications and licences to work safely and legally.

Required Qualifications

• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
• Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
• Current First Aid qualification.
• Full, clean driving licence.

Education

• Minimum of a relevant construction-related qualification at Level 3 or above.
• Additional formal training in site management or construction supervision is advantageous.

Experience

• Proven experience managing retail fit out or shop fit out projects on time and within budget.
• Strong track record of working on projects within London or similar urban environments.
• Experience in coordinating multiple subcontractors and managing site logistics effectively.

Knowledge and Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations applicable to retail fit outs.
• Effective communication skills to liaise with clients, suppliers, and site teams.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Competence in using site management software and Microsoft Office applications.

Working Conditions

• Work predominantly takes place on site in Southwark, Greater London.
• Full-time hours with an expectation of flexibility to meet project demands.
• Work involves exposure to typical construction site environments, including noise, dust, and variable weather conditions.
• Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory at all times on site.
