Job summary

HS2 Ltd. in Birmingham is seeking an experienced MEP Site Engineer to supervise on-site MEP installation activities within a major rail infrastructure programme.

You will coordinate with civil, structural and architectural teams, review technical drawings and ensure safety, quality and schedule compliance across sites in the Midlands. Based in the Central Region, you will support commissioning, handover and close-out, maintain site records and participate in project meetings with delivery

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical/Building Services engineering.
  • Experience as an MEP Site Engineer on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multi-disciplinary works.
  • Familiarity with QA procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs) and permit-to-work systems.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Conduct site inspections, quality checks and testing activities.
  • Support planning and sequencing of MEP works to hit milestones.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues and raise risks and mitigations.
  • Maintain accurate site records, progress reports and quality documentation.
  • Assist with commissioning, handover and close-out activities.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate with stakeholders and partners.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Key Accountabilities:
  • Manage and supervise MEP installation activities on site.
  • Ensure works are carried out in compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Review drawings, specifications, technical submittals and construction methodologies.
  • Coordinate MEP works with civil, structural and architectural teams to ensure effective project integration.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity and compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, quality checks and testing activities.
  • Support the planning and sequencing of MEP works to achieve programme milestones.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, raising potential risks and mitigation measures.
  • Maintain accurate site records, progress reports and quality documentation.
  • Assist with commissioning, handover and close-out activities.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with stakeholders, clients and delivery partners.
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
  • Previous experience working as an MEP Site Engineer on large-scale infrastructure, rail, civil engineering or construction projects. Strong understanding of MEP systems, installation practices and relevant industry standards.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multidisciplinary works.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and permit-to-work systems.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • CSCS card and relevant site safety qualifications.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and major project environments would be advantageous.
