Job summary

Balfour Beatty VINCI is delivering major infrastructure for HS2 in the Midlands. The role is based in Birmingham and focuses on supervising site engineers, ensuring accurate setting out, and coordinating with foremen to prevent clashes and keep the construction programme on track.

You will oversee quality, safety documentation, and permit to work processes, while coordinating with subcontractors and aligning work with the programme.

Qualifications

• Degree level qualification in civil engineering or HND in civil engineering.
• Min of 3 years' experience as Section Engineer.
• Read and understand drawings.
• Experience with Permit System and permits to work.

Responsibilities

• Allocate and supervise Site Engineers, ensuring setting out and coordination with Section Engineers/Foremen.
• Manage quality and compliance with ITPs, QCS, method statements and risk assessments.
• Oversee engineering and subcontractor requirements to deliver work per the programme.
• Control and manage project documentation and mark up design drawings.

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role Responsibilities:

• Allocate and supervise Site Engineers, ensuring accurate setting out, task completion, and coordination with Section Engineers/Foremen to manage clashes and maintain workflow.
• Manage quality and compliance by ensuring Inspection & Test Plans, Quality Check Sheets, method statements, and risk assessments are completed, approved, and followed.
• Oversee engineering and subcontractor requirements to ensure sections of work are delivered in line with the construction programme.
• Control and manage project documentation, including distribution of information and marking up design drawings to reflect completed works.
• Assess and plan plant, resource, and procedural requirements with the Section Foreman, regularly reviewing and improving procedures for efficiency.
• Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering
• Min of 3 years' experience as Section Engineer
• Read and understand drawings
• Have experience of working with Permit System and actively raises permits to work
• Have experience working in Earthworks, Roadworks, Structures or Drainage
