Job description
Overview

The successful candidate will be an experienced surgical nurse responsible for upholding standards of nursing care at all times. The post is located in Gate 33A, part of ASCR, the largest division at North Bristol NHS Trust, a surgical ward specialising in plastic surgery and burns.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective clinical leadership and ensure accountability for the nursing service on the ward.
  • Lead the nursing team in the delivery of evidence‑based, patient‑centred care, working in partnership with the Senior Sister, ward team, surgical teams and wider MDT.
  • Coordinate ward activities, patient flow and complete audits while mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Facilitate changes to meet service demands and develop the ward team including ongoing professional development.
  • Take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Senior Sister and support the Ward Senior Sister and wider team.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, ensuring monthly submission of quality and infection control audits and acting on results for continuous improvement.
  • Manage ward budgets, ensuring high standards of evidence‑based, individualised, holistic patient care.
  • Supervise and guide other qualified staff, health‑care assistants or students on a daily basis.
  • Provide an effective learning environment within the clinical area in support of the ward Sister.
  • Ensure that Trust policies, procedures and NMC code of conduct are known and followed by all members of the care team.

Remuneration

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of Band 8a unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
