The ideal candidate should be highly organized and reliable, with a full-time presence required at Goldsmiths' Hall. This position includes evening duties and offers a competitive salary along with a benefits package.
The Goldsmiths’ Company is a membership organisation that has contributed to national life for nearly 700 years. We train and support jewellers and silversmiths, protect consumers by testing and hallmarking precious metals, and work with charitable, educational and cultural partners to help improve people’s lives. The Goldsmiths’ Company’s Collection lies at the heart of who we are. It includes historic and contemporary works of art—stunning gold and silver plate, jewellery and art medals. We research it, teach with it, display it, lend it and talk about it as part of our core identity.
The Goldsmiths' Company seeks to appoint a Silver Steward who will be responsible for the practical day-to-day maintenance and storage of the Company’s historic Collection of silver, jewellery and medals, and for its security and safety both in and out of storage. The Silver Steward works in the storage area at Goldsmiths’ Hall with the Collection on a permanent full-time basis, including regular evening duties, for which overtime payment will be given and a taxi home organised.
It is an exciting time for our small team as we work on major projects, especially leading up to our 700th year anniversary in 2027. We are implementing our new Collections Management system as a first step towards developing online catalogues and exhibitions on our website, making our treasures fully discoverable to a global audience.
