Job Description:
The service manager has responsibility for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. Ensuring their welfare and compliance with organizational, statutory, and contractual standards. The manager operates within a legislative framework, ensuring practices align with statutes and government guidelines, and promotes organizational values and care ethos.
The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers of 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children at Lynton Community Care. The Service Manager reports directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Referring, assessing, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
- Maintaining good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (revised 2012), Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Controlling the environment of the home, ensuring health and safety legislation, infection control, and environmental health standards are met. Conducting risk assessments and fire checks to ensure safety.
- Collaborating with CIW to understand and adhere to Fundamental Standards and fulfilling statutory notification requirements.
- Managing legal and statutory documentation, including insurance and enrollment documents, and ensuring maintenance issues are documented and addressed.
- Monitoring and investigating complaints, generating reports, and implementing corrective actions and service improvements.
- Recruiting staff, overseeing induction and training, and supporting team development.
- Promoting a culture of openness, supporting staff decision-making, and fostering service improvements.
- Holding regular staff meetings, providing supervision, and supporting staff development.
- Building positive relationships with staff and establishing effective communication mechanisms.
- Participating in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and decisions, in consultation with HR if needed.
- Managing staff scheduling, rotas, absences, holidays, and sickness.
- Overseeing medication management, including ordering, recording, disposal, and auditing.
- Managing budgets and monitoring expenditure, including petty cash, food shopping, and activity budgets.
- Safeguarding service users and addressing safeguarding issues.
- Handling applications related to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and working with paid personal representatives to ensure legal compliance of care plans.
- Being on call out of hours for advice, guidance, and incident response.
- Attending supervision and engaging in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Participating in strategic planning, decision-making, and business growth.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Director appropriate to your skills and competence.
- Managing budgets and financial reports.
- Writing and auditing behavioral reports and documentation.
The Service Manager must have skills and qualifications to support both adults and children living with learning disabilities.
