The service manager has responsibility for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. The role involves ensuring welfare, compliance with standards, and legislative frameworks, promoting organizational values and care ethos.
The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers across 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children at Lynton Community Care. The role reports directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Refer and assess new service users, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (revised 2012), Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Maintain control of the homes, ensuring environmental health, infection control, and health and safety legislation are followed. Conduct risk assessments and fire checks to ensure safety.
- Work with CIW to understand and adhere to Fundamental Standards and carry out statutory notifications as required.
- Manage legal and statutory documentation, including insurance and enrollment documents, and record maintenance issues and actions taken.
- Monitor and investigate complaints, generate reports, and implement corrective actions within the home.
- Assist in recruiting, inducting, and training staff, supporting their development and supervision.
- Promote openness and honesty, supporting staff decision-making and service improvements.
- Hold regular staff meetings, support team work, and ensure effective communication mechanisms.
- Participate in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and meetings, in consultation with HR.
- Manage staff scheduling, rotas, absences, and holiday and sickness management. Oversee medication management systems.
- Manage budgets and monitor expenditure, including petty cash, food shopping, and activity budgets.
- Safeguard service users and handle safeguarding issues proactively.
- Work with paid personal representatives to ensure care plans meet legal requirements regarding Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Be available on call out of hours for advice, guidance, and incident attendance.
- Attend supervision and engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Contribute to strategic planning, decision-making, and business growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, aligned with your skills and competence.
- Manage financial aspects of the service, including budgets and financial reporting.
- Write and audit behavioral reports and related documentation.
