Job summary

Cumberland Council is seeking a Service Manager - Waste Collections to lead domestic and trade waste and recycling operations across the Cumberland area, driving modernisation and consistent service delivery.

You will develop policies, manage the budget, and work with elected Members and external partners to design inclusive, efficient waste solutions, while ensuring regulatory compliance and staff development.

Qualifications

• Experience leading waste management or similar operations in a complex organisation.
• Strong understanding of waste legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and drive service improvements.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: operational lead for waste collection services and developing the council's integrated waste service model.
• Operational Excellence: ensure compliance with legislation and optimise service delivery.
• Financial Stewardship: manage the waste collections budget and funding strategies.
• Service Transformation: focus on customer experience and create an entrepreneurial, innovative culture.
• Stakeholder Engagement: build relationships with elected Members, residents, and partners to co-design solutions.
• Procurement & Risk: manage disposal contracts and procurement with risk and health and safety compliance.
