Job summary

WSP is seeking a Technical Director to lead structural engineering services for major energy infrastructure projects in the UK. You will guide project teams, manage client relationships, and drive technical excellence and innovation across the portfolio.

The role focuses on Transmission and Distribution networks, substations, OHL structures, and power stations, with hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Strong leadership and Chartered Engineer credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body.
• Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.
• Experience in Substations, Transmission and Distribution infrastructure, OHL projects, power stations or petrochemical facilities would be advantageous.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the structural design and delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects.
• Provide strategic input into project planning, resourcing, and risk management.
• Deliver structural solutions for substations, transmission and distribution facilities, OHL structures, and power stations.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Contribute to business development, including bids, proposals, and client presentations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated and sustainable design solutions.
• Support the development of best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
