Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in Oxford, UK is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our non-realtime controllers team. You will own device controllers end-to-end, build robust services, and collaborate with systems teams and scientists to operate software that controls quantum hardware.

You will work in a hybrid environment with experienced engineers, contributing to observability, reliability, and streaming improvements across our fleet.

Qualifications

• Experience with Linux-based systems and interfacing with hardware.
• Ability to own a problem area with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in system-level programming and Rust or another systems language.
• Comfortable with production-style delivery and observability.

Responsibilities

• Own a group of device controllers end to end.
• Make services robust against instrument failures.
• Onboard devices to the current framework and roll out across the fleet.
• Improve the shared framework for common problems.
• Collaborate with systems teams and scientists.
• Mentor less experienced engineers.
