Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in Oxford, UK is seeking a Senior Systems Software Engineer to join our Runtime Software team. You will work with experimental scientists to implement real-time control system behaviors and provide abstractions for their experiments as we scale toward fault-tolerant quantum computation.

You will help shape the core Rust libraries and the execution environment that turns hardware into a quantum computer, delivering high-precision control and scalable software for our quantum systems.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in one or more mainstream languages.
• Experience with systems programming.
• Experience with real-time Linux or embedded/low-latency computing.
• Interest in or experience with Rust.

Responsibilities

• Develop abstractions over real-time control hardware for precise nanosecond-level operation.
• Contribute to core execution model and execution environment for quantum computers.
• Collaborate with scientists to understand requirements and translate them into software.
• Interface with system orchestration, non-realtime control, and compiler teams for integration.
• Collaborate with FPGA and electronics teams to shape system architecture.
• Implement drivers for real-time devices and develop tooling for rapid iteration.
• Continuously evaluate and improve API shapes for internal users.
