Job summary
SP Energy Networks, part of the Iberdrola Group, is recruiting a Principal Engineer to lead the design of transmission substations across our Strategic Projects portfolio in Scotland and the UK. You will provide technical leadership, oversee substation outputs, and work with EPCs and OEMs to ensure safe, compliant, and deliverable designs.

Qualifications
- Degree-level engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical transmission substation design.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in EPC environments with large-scale projects.
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering design delivery of 33kV to 400kV substations across Strategic Projects.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight of substation design outputs.
- Interface with EPC contractors and OEM partners for quality, standards and deliverables.
- Support Project Development and Delivery teams through design, construction and operation.
- Lead technical assurance of EPC design submissions and regulatory filings.
- Drive technical innovation including BIM and new tools across projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex challenges.
