Job summary

WSP Global Inc. is seeking a Primary Design Engineer for Scotland (Energy) to deliver substation design from feasibility through to detailed design for 33kV to 400kV transmission projects.

The role involves producing design drawings, specifications and feasibility reports, while coordinating with multiple disciplines and stakeholders. You will review supplier and client designs, ensure compliance with standards, and act as CDM/Principal Designer on HV/EHV projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in substation design and understanding of interfaces with other disciplines.
• Experience of small, medium and technically complex substations, retrofits or network reinforcement projects.
• Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 33kV to 400kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV/EHV plant in transmission substations.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation relating to electrical substations.
• Willingness to travel as per project needs.

Responsibilities

• Produce a comprehensive suite of design drawings for transmission level substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for Electrical plant and associated designs for upgrades and new substations 33kV–400kV.
• Produce substation design feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, GA's and plant specifications including transformers, switchgear and batteries.
• Review designs by suppliers and clients for technical compliance with legislation and policies.
• Ensure designs are delivered per contract and client specifications.
• Undertake CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer roles for HV and EHV projects.
• Identify and manage Health and Safety risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during build.
• Ensure project design aligns with programme, quality and margin.
• Develop external/internal client relationships.
