Job summary

Pearson Carter Limited is seeking a technically minded Software Systems Engineer in Bridgend, South Wales. You will develop, maintain and improve software and control systems for existing products and new projects, working across requirements, architecture, and testing with production teams.

Qualifications

HND, Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.
At least 5 years' professional experience within a commercial software development environment.
Experience with VB.NET in an engineering, manufacturing, automation or similar technical setting.
Developing applications that communicate with or control hardware and engineering equipment.
Understanding of industrial automation, machine control and motion-control technologies.
Experience interpreting software requirements and producing system specifications and documentation.
Practical software testing, fault finding, debugging and validation experience.
Knowledge of software/hardware relationships in complex engineering systems.
Exposure to PLC-based control systems would be advantageous.
Experience with laser control technology would be advantageous.
Strong logical thinking and analytical skills; able to resolve complex problems.
Methodical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
Excellent written and verbal communication with engineering teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Review and interpret software requirements from product specs and customer projects.
Collaborate with product development, engineering and production to translate requirements into software solutions.
Produce detailed software and system specifications including interfaces and behaviour.
Design, develop and maintain software applications and control solutions.
Create and maintain technical documentation: module descriptions, designs, test plans and procedures.
Carry out software verification and validation to meet specifications.
Participate in design reviews and provide input on architecture decisions.
Liaise with customers, end users, contractors to clarify requirements and issues.
Provide support during installation, commissioning and integration, incl. international visits.
Diagnose and resolve faults from development to deployment and support.
Implement fixes, upgrades and enhancements in response to needs.
Assist knowledge transfer and training to colleagues.
Stay up-to-date with developments in software, automation and control technologies.
Build understanding of existing/legacy control systems, especially VB.NET apps.
Provide technical assistance to Software Systems Manager across platforms.
