Avencia is partnered with a leading insurer that is seeking to recruit a Senior Underwriter with experience in Medical Malpractice.

This role sits within the Schemes division, a key growth pillar for the business and an area undergoing active development. It offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who enjoys building and developing portfolios of business.

The role

The role involves underwriting new and renewal business across delegated Medical Malpractice portfolios. The company offers hybrid working, and the position can be based in any of their UK offices: Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, or London.

Key accountabilities
  • Support the Schemes team by contributing to targets and sharing technical expertise.
  • Manage enquiries and negotiate terms to win and retain profitable business.
  • Act as a referral point for brokers and underwriting colleagues, handling upper-tier referrals to agreed service levels.
  • Lead underwriting input for account reviews and renewals, providing performance insights and recommendations.
  • Oversee the running of delegated business, ensuring pricing and underwriting integrity.
  • Conduct periodic coverholder audits and close any resulting actions.
  • Maintain the quality of existing and incoming business.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and efficiency across your Scheme portfolio.
  • Build strong trading relationships with broker partners to position the business as a preferred market.
  • Provide senior-level underwriting expertise and uphold company guidelines and authority levels.
  • Serve as a key contact for queries relating to your Scheme portfolios.
