Job description

Overview

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Senior Radiographer to join our friendly team here at the Great Western Hospital.

The Great Western Hospital are currently looking to expand their Radiology department to support the recovery and current demand within diagnostics. The Radiology department hosts digital plain film rooms, multiple CT scanners, Interventional and Mobile equipment. This is a fantastic opportunity for established Radiographers with NHS experience looking to increase their knowledge and work with state-of-the-art equipment which currently includes a 5% recruitment and retention premium. The Radiology Department undertakes approximately 251,300 examinations a year ranging over a variety of modalities. The successful applicant will be a keen team player who has image quality and patient care high on their agenda with a flexible approach to working hours. The department supports the development of your clinical skills and education, we encourage staff CPD.

The Great Western Hospital conducts diagnostic radiological examinations across a range of clinical specialities, adapting techniques to accommodate a range of patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. To independently assess and justify referrals under IR(ME)R 2000 following practitioner guidelines where appropriate.
  2. Able to interpret Clinician's requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic imaging technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic.
  3. To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques.
  4. To work out of hours to support the Radiology services offered at Great Western Hospital; nights shifts may on occasion need to be covered.
  5. To undertake CT/MRI/Plain Film in the absence of a Radiologist according to agreed protocols.
  6. To be able to use the departmental radiology information computer system (CRIS) as required and be conversant with the picture archive communication system (PACS).
  7. To undertake Quality Control procedures, including Quality Assurance testing for image quality and equipment safety, and to help with clinical audits.
  8. To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research and to act on the findings where possible and provide statistical information on the work load when necessary.

Candidates are responsible for covering the cost of their own DBS check if required: £21.50 for a Standard DBS check, recoverable from the first pay, or £49.50 for an Enhanced DBS check, divided and recoverable over the initial two pay periods. Payment for DBS checks for bank posts must be settled prior to commencement. Apprentices are exempt from DBS payment.
