Job summary

Hitachi Rail GTS UK Limited is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the design, development and maintenance of railway solutions for bids and projects in the UK. You will mentor team members and contribute to architectural decisions ensuring customer requirements are met.

The role involves reporting to the Portfolio Engineering Delivery Manager, with hybrid work and London/Birmingham/Cheadle offices depending on bid demands. Strong leadership and rail systems experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in systems development and systems engineering principles.
• Ability to lead, mentor and coach a diverse team.
• Proven capability to design and develop complex systems from concept to production.
• Experience with railway standards and processes.
• Familiarity with governance, assurance and technical requirements in rail projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable systems solutions for bids and projects.
• Act as junior EDM and Work Package Manager, forecasting progress and managing changes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define technical specs.
• Provide input to architectural discussions and trade-off studies.
• Document technical elements of business cases for project variations.
• Apply CDM regulations to identify and mitigate design risks.
• Troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
• Provide independent peer review of system designs.
• Understand and apply project delivery processes and engineering plans.
