Job summary

Hitachi Rail Limited in the UK is recruiting a Senior Systems Engineer to lead design, development and maintenance of rail systems for bids and projects. You will contribute to architectural decisions and ensure solutions meet customer requirements, reporting to the Portfolio Engineering Delivery Manager.

This hybrid role requires mentoring and coaching of the team, strong stakeholder management, and experience with railway standards.

Qualifications

• Strong communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
• Extensive experience in systems development and systems engineering principles.
• Understanding of railway standards and processes.
• Experience with design tools and architecture for complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of scalable rail systems for bids and projects.
• Act as junior EDM and Work Package Manager, tracking progress and forecasting work.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define technical specs.
• Provide input to architectural discussions and perform trade-off analyses.
• Lead design and development using industry best practices.
• Document technical elements of business cases for variations and opportunities.
• Ensure safety design considerations under CDM regulations and manage design risks.
• Troubleshoot, identify root causes and implement solutions.
• Provide peer review of system designs and ensure delivery processes are followed.
