Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent Principal Engineer (OLE) to join our Consulting Rail team in the UK. You will act as a technical team leader, guiding engineers across locations and ensuring high-quality rail design outputs while managing the budgets and schedule.

You will engage with clients and suppliers, contribute to bids, and promote robust health and safety practices within the team. Applicants from Birmingham or surrounding regions are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Experience leading design teams and checking technical outputs.
• Strong understanding of rail design processes and safety standards.
• Ability to manage budgets and control project costs.
• Effective communication with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Proven track record in winning bids or contributing to tenders.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical team leader for Rail OLE projects, guiding engineers and coordinating with managers, clients and suppliers.
• Lead the preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and deliverables to meet quality, cost and schedule targets.
• Own commercial performance of projects, monitoring budgets and controlling production costs.
• Engage with client and supplier representatives at peer level, present proposals and respond to queries.
• Lead the preparation of bids and proposals, supporting the business development effort.
• Promote and enforce health and safety practices across the team.
