Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee commercial aspects on major infrastructure and energy projects. You will manage contracts, subcontractor terms, and cost reporting, while mentoring junior team members.

The role requires NEC contracts experience and strong stakeholder collaboration across the project team. The position offers a site-focused blend of work with office and home-based elements, with travel to sites and project offices across the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience operating as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on major projects.
• Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
• Experience managing subcontractors, procurement and commercial reporting.
• Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.
• Membership of, or working towards, RICS, ICES or CIOB accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial performance of major infrastructure projects from inception through to final account.
• Preparing, reviewing and negotiating subcontract agreements and commercial terms.
• Managing compensation events, variations, claims and contractual entitlements.
• Producing accurate cost forecasts, CVRs, and financial reports.
• Supporting procurement activities and supply chain management.
• Monitoring subcontractor performance and valuations.
• Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risks and opportunities.
• Providing commercial support to project delivery teams and senior stakeholders.
• Analysing rates, prices and cost data to maximise project value.
• Supporting the preparation and negotiation of claims where required.
• Mentoring and developing Assistant and Quantity Surveyors within the commercial team.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and best practice.
