Job summary

Ignite Talent Group is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a major North East main contractor. You will own commercial delivery on high-value projects (£15m–£60m) and work with the project team to keep budgets and forecasts aligned with targets.

The role requires a proven track record in main contracting, strong procurement and contract administration, and the ability to mentor junior surveyors within a growing commercial team. North East office-based role with significant project exposure.

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Main Contractor

North East | Up to £80,000 + £6,000 Car Allowance + Benefits

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team of a well-established main contractor, based from their North East office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior QS to join a growing regional operation and take commercial responsibility across a range of major construction projects throughout the North East.

The business has a strong pipeline of work, with projects typically ranging from £15m–£60m across a variety of sectors including residential, industrial, commercial, logistics, public sector and mixed-use developments.

The role would suit an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for the opportunity to work on significant projects, take ownership of commercial delivery and have genuine involvement with the wider project and senior management teams.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of your projects from pre-construction and procurement through to completion and final account.

You will work closely with the Project Manager, Contracts Manager and wider commercial team, providing commercial and contractual advice and ensuring projects are delivered in line with agreed budgets, forecasts and commercial targets.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking lead commercial responsibility across projects valued between £15m–£60m
• Managing projects from procurement through to completion and final account
• Preparing and managing project budgets, cost plans and forecasts
• Leading subcontractor procurement and managing key commercial packages
• Preparing, reviewing and negotiating subcontract orders and contracts
• Managing monthly valuations, applications and payment processes
• Producing accurate monthly cost and value reportsManaging project forecasts, cash flow and commercial performance
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
• Managing variations, change control and compensation events
• Reviewing and agreeing subcontractor accounts and final accounts
• Managing and resolving commercial and contractual issues
• Providing commercial and contractual advice to the project team
• Working closely with clients, consultants and supply chain partners
• Supporting project teams with commercial strategy and decision making
• Ensuring commercial procedures and governance are maintained throughout the project
• Supporting and mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors

About You

We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background working for a main contractor.

You should be comfortable taking commercial ownership of significant projects and managing multiple subcontract packages, with a strong understanding of commercial management, procurement and contract administration.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment
• Experience managing projects of £15m+ in value
• Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
• Experience managing major subcontract packages from procurement through to final account
• Strong understanding of cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow
• Experience managing variations, change and commercial risk
• Strong knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
• Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• Experience working closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers and clients
• A relevant Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent qualification is preferred
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior members of the commercial team
