Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Digital Civil and Structural Team in the UK. You will lead geotechnical workstreams across energy infrastructure projects, including ground investigations, modelling, and design reviews, while guiding junior engineers and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires chartered status, travel, and a track record of delivering complex geotechnical packages within energy projects.

Qualifications

Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
Chartered Engineer status ICE or equivalent.
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
Significant experience in geotechnical engineering consultancy, ideally within the energy infrastructure sector.
Demonstrable experience leading geotechnical packages on complex infrastructure projects.
Sound knowledge of geotechnical design principles related to foundations, earthworks and slope stability.
Experience undertaking technical reviews and acting as a technical lead for project delivery.
Thorough understanding of Eurocodes, British Standards and geotechnical best practice.
Experience managing project budgets, programmes and client relationships.
Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience mentoring engineers (DE, SCE).

Responsibilities

Geotechnical desk studies, preliminary assessments and reviews of existing geotechnical reporting.
Ground investigation contract administration and scope/ specifications.
Review RAMs and monitor health and safety compliance on site and in office.
Review or peer review of geotechnical interpretative and design reports.
Geotechnical analysis and ground modelling.
Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines for integrated geotechnical assessments.
Assess geotechnical hazards and communicate solutions.
Respond to technical queries and RFIs for designers.
Coordinate production of client tender packages.
