Job summary

Mott MacDonald seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Energy unit in Manchester. You will apply geotechnical design knowledge across projects, lead ground investigations, and collaborate with civil and structural teams to deliver integrated assessments.

The role emphasizes safety, quality, and delivering value in energy developments. The ideal candidate will be chartered (ICE) or equivalent, with energy sector experience and strong communication skills in English.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (essential).
• Sound knowledge of geotechnical design principles: foundations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures, ground improvement.
• Budget and schedule control: cost estimation and programme management for ground investigations and design phases.
• Excellent English communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical desk studies and preliminary assessments of reports.
• Review RAMs, ensure health and safety compliance on site and in office.
• Prepare ground investigation scope, specifications, and data interpretation for ground models.
• Create Geotechnical Interpretative Reports and Geotechnical Design Reports.
• Perform geotechnical analysis and assist with multi-disciplinary project delivery.
• Communicate geotechnical risks and recommended solutions to project teams.
• Support proposals and client tender packages with geotechnical input.
