Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Energy Unit in the UK. You will lead geotechnical packages across large energy infrastructure projects, provide technical leadership, and contribute to integrated design through ground modelling and analysis.

We value Chartered Engineers, strong client management, and a track record of delivering complex geotechnical solutions. The role offers hybrid working and a path to ownership within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or similar).
• Chartered Engineer status ICE or equivalent.
• Significant geotechnical consultancy experience in energy infrastructure.
• Experience leading geotechnical packages on complex projects.
• Sound knowledge of geotechnical design principles: foundations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures, ground improvement.
• Experience undertaking technical reviews and acting as a technical lead for project delivery.
• Thorough understanding of Eurocodes and British Standards.
• Experience managing project budgets, programmes and client relationships.
• Excellent report writing and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Geotechnical desk studies, preliminary assessments and reviews of existing geotechnical reporting.
• Ground Investigation contract administration; scope, specifications, data interpretation for a ground model.
• On-site and office investigation contract management; RAMs and safety compliance.
• Prepare and review Geotechnical Interpretative and design reports.
• Geotechnical analysis and ground modelling; use of analysis software.
• Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines for integrated assessments.
• Assess geotechnical hazards and communicate solutions.
• Respond to technical queries and RFIs; forward to designers.
• Support proposals and client tender packages.
