Job summary

A public sector recruitment firm is seeking a qualified payroll specialist to oversee the transition of the pensioner payroll system and ensure accurate and timely payments for over 16,000 beneficiaries. Responsibilities include implementing new processes, meeting statutory tax obligations, and maintaining compliance with the Local Government Pension Scheme. This is a hybrid role requiring both independent leadership and collaborative work with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience of running a payroll for a large employer.
• Significant understanding of the principles of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
• Fully computer literate with intermediate spreadsheet and word-processing skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement the new payroll system and supervise the transition.
• Ensure timely and accurate payments to all pensioners.
• Complete all statutory returns and tax payments on time.
• Work alongside Benefit Managers to recover overpaid pensions.
