Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer – Overhead Lines (OHL) in the UK to lead design for 400kV transmission projects within the Transmission & Distribution team.

You’ll deliver technical guidance, run PLS-CADD modelling, and coordinate with clients on feasibility, design criteria, and compliance for the UK’s Great Grid Upgrade and other national grid initiatives. The role offers hybrid working, career development, and exposure to major national projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline (electrical or power).
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a recognised electrical engineering institution (e.g. IET).
• Experience delivering UK transmission projects for operators like National Grid, SSE or SPT.
• Overhead line engineering experience up to 400 kV.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide project technical support and design for overhead transmission lines up to 400 kV.
• Involve in large programmes like the UK Great Grid Partnership.
• Write proposals, outline timelines, resources and objectives.
• Deliver design activities including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis and sag–tension calculations.
• Conduct feasibility studies, conductor thermal ratings and compliance with standards.
• Originate and check complex engineering deliverables and perform internal quality checks.
