Job summary

AECOM in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for Overhead Lines (OHL) to lead transmission project design up to 400 kV. This role sits within the Transmission & Distribution team on the National Grid Great Grid Upgrade programme, delivering complex design work and engaging with clients.

You will support proposals, feasibility studies, and technical checks, while contributing to feasibility analyses, conductor selection, and detailed design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline (electrical/power engineering).
• Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g. IET).
• Experience delivering UK projects for transmission operators (National Grid, SSE, SPT) is advantageous.
• Overhead line engineering experience up to 400 kV is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide project technical support and design for transmission projects up to 400 kV.
• Involve in large programmes like GGP projects and support proposal writing with timelines and budgets.
• Provide technical input throughout project implementation, planning and public consultation events.
• Perform design activities including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor selection, and clearance reports.
• Conduct feasibility studies and conductor thermal ratings, ensuring compliance with standards.
• Produce engineering deliverables such as designs, reports, proposals, drawings, and presentations.
• Perform internal quality checks of drawings and calculations.
