Job summary

M-KOPA is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and deliver event-driven microservices for M-KOPA Mobility. You’ll work across architecture, development, and production monitoring to enable scalable, sustainable digital financing for riders and entrepreneurs across Africa.

Join a mission-driven team focused on climate impact, financial inclusion, and rapid growth. This fully remote role operates within UTC-1 to UTC+3, collaborating with teams in the UK, Europe, and Africa.

Qualifications

• Strong C# .NET development experience.
• Experience with event-driven systems (Service Bus, Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Microservices architecture experience.
• Cloud experience with Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Containerisation with Kubernetes and Docker.
• Observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code).

Responsibilities

• Build sophisticated event-driven microservices powering M-KOPA Mobility.
• Own solutions end-to-end from architecture decisions to production monitoring.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, product and operations.
• Help scale backend systems as the business grows 3x year-on-year.
