Job summary

M-KOPA Mobility is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to scale our event-driven microservices powering affordable transport across Africa. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract with potential to extend or transition to a permanent role, fully remote within UTC -1 to UTC +3.

You’ll develop in C#/.NET, own backend services, and work with Azure, Kubernetes, and messaging systems like Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.

Qualifications

• Strong grasp of C# .NET development.
• Experience with event-driven systems (Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ).
• Microservices architecture experience.
• Experience with Azure or other major cloud providers (AWS/GCP).
• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Testing and deployment expertise; DevOps mindset.
• Experience with AI coding tools, ideally Claude Code.

Responsibilities

• Build sophisticated event-driven microservices with end-to-end ownership.
• Collaborate across teams to design, deploy, and monitor production services.
• Implement observability, testing, and automated deployment practices.
• Contribute to DevOps culture and infrastructure as code initiatives.
