Primer is building the unified payments infrastructure. We are seeking a Senior ML Engineer to own end-to-end ML features, from research to production, and to help shape the ML foundation with a hands-on, pragmatic approach.

You will work closely with engineering, data, and product teams in a remote-first, globally distributed environment. You will design experiments, deploy models, monitor performance, and mentor others while collaborating with customers to validate ideas and align with real

Qualifications

• Senior experience in ML engineering, data science, or applied research with production deployments.
• Ability to design and run experiments and A/B tests.
• Strong Python skills and experience with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch or Keras.
• Solid grounding in modern software engineering, infrastructure and data tooling, and an understanding of the MLOps challenges across the full ML lifecycle.
• Familiarity with reinforcement learning and understanding of its applications.
• Cloud experience — AWS preferred; GCP or Azure both fine.
• Exposure to payments or e-commerce is a plus, not a prerequisite.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to work independently to define how we work.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of ML-powered features from research to production—tracking and monitoring in production.
• Productionise smart routing decisions across the payment flow and build ML infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product, data and engineering to turn use cases into shipped outcomes.
• Adopt pragmatic, impact-first experimentation and model evaluation.
• Mentor other engineers in ML techniques and tradeoffs.
• Talk directly to customers to validate ideas and test against real usage.
• Help set technical direction within your area and prioritise use cases.
• Establish patterns that make ML reliable and repeatable at Primer.
