Job summary

MWH Treatment is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design activities across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects, delivering robust, buildable solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe, efficient asset performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in mechanical design within water/wastewater utilities or regulated engineering environments.
• Experience producing mechanical calculations, equipment specs and design documentation.
• Ability to develop practical, buildable mechanical solutions considering safety and whole-life cost.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and mentoring engineers.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution, ideally Chartered or on track for Chartership.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design tasks and packages to agreed technical standards, budgets and programmes.
• Develop mechanical designs, equipment specs, layouts and documentation.
• Produce cost-efficient mechanical solutions considering construction, commissioning and whole-life costs.
• Review and assure mechanical design outputs within area of authority.
• Coordinate mechanical design activities with Process, EICA, Civil, Structural, Digital and Commissioning teams.
• Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities for optimisation.
• Support selection of mechanical equipment (pumps, pipework, valves, plant equipment).
• Mentor junior engineers, graduates and apprentices.
