Senior Mechanical Design Manager - Infrastructure Projects

Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead multi-disciplinary design on critical national infrastructure projects. You will guide design input from early concepts through delivery, ensuring buildability, compliance, and innovation while coordinating with clients and stakeholders.

You will manage design teams, drive technical assurance and foster collaboration across civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical and electrical interfaces to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience managing design through the full project lifecycle across multiple sectors.
• Strong understanding of integrated design delivery and managing consultant performance.
• Knowledge and experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and common data environments.
• Degree in Mechanical or Building Services engineering; Chartered engineer status preferred.
• Excellent communication with clients and staff; self-driven with results orientation.
• Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit) and multidisciplinary design interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical assurance, review constructability, and manage design interfaces.
• Manage multi-disciplinary teams of engineers from consultants and partner companies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and design coordinators for project delivery.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, contractors and consultants on issues, scope changes and risks.
• Develop innovative, practical and sustainable engineering solutions meeting requirements.
• Embed health, safety, and environmental considerations into designs.
• Ensure integration across civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical and electrical functions.
