Job summary

Curtiss-Wright Corporation in Christchurch, Dorset seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead introduction of new products to production, support existing lines and ensure services remain available to production. You will collaborate with Engineering on DFM/testability/manufacturability issues, develop new manufacturing processes and build guides, and design assembly jigs and fixtures.

The role also involves layout of cells with tooling and services and driving lean improvements.

Qualifications

  • HNC/Degree in Engineering discipline (Manufacturing/Mechanical/Electronics).
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar Senior role in medium/high volume electro-mechanical manufacturing.
  • Awareness of modern manufacturing philosophies and techniques.
  • Computer literate (MS Word, MS Excel, SolidWorks).
  • Ideally some hands-on experience.
  • Organised and a team player with good communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in Introduction of new products to production.
  • Actively work with Engineering on DFM/testability/manufacturability issues and design of new products.
  • Develop new manufacturing processes and build guides.
  • Design and produce assembly jigs and fixtures.
  • Layout manufacturing cells with all tooling and services.
  • Suggest improvements to current production processes and investigate manufacturing problems.
  • Investigate faults identified by other departments and recommend action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Lean tools knowledge and experience (5S, continuous improvement).
  • Ensure equipment is available and operational.

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for our Christchurch location, you will be responsible for the introduction of new products to production, support current production lines and ensure services are always available to production.

Your Challenge

Assist in Introduction of new products to production

  • Actively work with Engineering on all DFM/testability/manufacturability issues and design of new products

  • Develop new manufacturing processes and build guides

  • Design and produce assembly jigs and fixtures

  • Layout manufacturing cells with all tooling and services

Support Current Production
  • Suggest and implement improvements to current production processes

  • Investigate and solve manufacturing problems

  • Investigate Quality problems caused by build and external suppliers

  • Identify new production methods and tooling

  • Recommend improvements to existing methods of manufacture

  • Update Existing Build guides in line with improvements and Engineering changes

  • Investigate faults identified by other departments and recommend action to prevent reoccurrence

  • Assist in factory layout moves

  • Lean tools knowledge and experience (5S, continuous improvement, etc)

Ensure services available to production at all times
  • Ensure equipment is available and operational

  • Ensure equipment is safe to use

What You Bring
  • HNC/Degree Engineering discipline (Manufacturing/Mechanical/Electronics)

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role in medium/high volume Electro-mechanical manufacturing environment (Less experience/other industry considered)

  • Awareness of modern manufacturing philosophies and techniques

  • Computer literate (MS Word, MS Excel, Solidworks)

  • Ideally some hands-on experience

  • Basic Knowledge of material processing processes

  • Basic Pneumatics/Hydraulics knowledge

  • Steady under pressure

  • Organised

  • Team player – Can work as part of a dynamic team.

  • Good communication skills with all levels of staff across all departments
