Job summary

BGEN Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical/Building Services Engineer to design Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems and deliver feasibility through detailed designs for complex engineering projects in the UK.

You will perform airflow and duct sizing calculations, develop drawings and documentation, and support installation and commissioning while ensuring regulatory and safety compliance. Strong CAD/CFD and Excel skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• BOHS P601, P602, P603 and P604 qualifications are required.
• 5+ years of LEV design experience.
• Membership of BOHS, CIBSE or IMechE is preferred.
• AutoCAD proficiency and CFD modeling skills are expected.
• Strong Excel-based calculation capability.

Responsibilities

• Design Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems in line with HSG258, COSHH, CDM and Safe by Design.
• Produce feasibility, preliminary and detailed engineering designs with hoods, ducts, fans and filtration.
• Perform airflow, duct sizing, pressure loss and system balancing calculations.
• Prepare technical documentation, drawings, P&IDs and specifications.
• Support during installation, commissioning and handover and review test data.

BGEN is one of the UK's largest multidisciplinary design and build contractors with over 100 years of industry experience. We support clients in the Water, Power & Energy, Pharmaceutical, Nuclear and Food and Beverage industries to deliver next generation, value-added engineering solutions.

What you'll be doing?

Design Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems in compliance with HSG258, COSHH, CDM and Safe by Design principles. Produce feasibility, preliminary and detailed engineering designs, including capture hoods, extraction arms, enclosures, ductwork, fans, filtration systems, dust collectors and discharge stacks. Perform airflow, velocity, duct sizing, pressure loss, fan duty and system balancing calculations to develop efficient and effective ventilation solutions. Prepare and manage technical documentation, including drawings, P&IDs, equipment schedules, specifications, risk assessments, calculation reports, commissioning records, O&M manuals and as-built documentation. Conduct site surveys, assess process hazards and verify existing systems to support design development. Participate in design reviews, HAZID and HAZOP workshops, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated throughout the design lifecycle. Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and handover, review test data and performance reports, respond to technical queries, and ensure all designs meet regulatory, safety and performance requirements.
