Job summary

Bauer Media Group is building a new in-house engineering hub in Manchester. We seek a Senior Software Engineer to lead hands-on development of core features, mentor engineers, and drive secure, scalable systems in a hybrid, two-days-per-week-in-office setting.

You will shape technical direction, collaborate with product and tech peers, and help create a diverse, inclusive team culture focused on engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Hands-on engineering with frontend and backend capability.
• Proficiency in Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes, and Kafka.
• Experience with microservices or domain-driven architecture.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, containerisation and security practices.
• Interest in AI-assisted development tooling to boost productivity.
• Strong communication and collaboration across disciplines.
• Experience in product-led, agile software delivery.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver features across the platform with end-to-end ownership.
• Shape architectural decisions within your squad and align with product priorities.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Champion DevOps practices, CI/CD, automation and observability, and security.
