Job summary

Bauer Media Group in Manchester is establishing a new in-house software development hub. The Lead Engineer will mentor a squad of engineers, write and review code, shape technical direction, and collaborate with product and technology peers to deliver scalable audio platform solutions.

You will partner with senior leaders to ensure alignment with business priorities, drive delivery, and champion a culture of engineering excellence, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on software engineering with depth across full-stack or backend development.
• Familiarity with Node/TypeScript, React, Java, AWS, Kubernetes and Kafka.
• Strong understanding of microservices, APIs and cloud deployment.
• Experience with CI/CD, containerisation, version control and testing strategies.
• Awareness of security best practices across development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Grow your team: coach engineers, run 1:1s, support growth plans.
• Contribute technically: code reviews, quality and architecture input.
• Drive delivery: plan capacity, participate in roadmaps and sprints.
• Uphold standards: define coding standards and manage technical debt.
• Ensure operational excellence: participate in incident response and runbooks.
