Job summary

Bauer Media Group in Manchester is building a new in-house software engineering hub. Senior Software Engineer you will lead hands-on development, mentor engineers and collaborate with product peers to deliver secure, scalable systems for Bauer Media Audio’s platforms.

You’ll work in a hybrid, full-time role, contributing to architectural decisions and improving platform quality while growing with an inclusive, high-performance team.

Qualifications

• Experience in leading hands-on software development across frontend and backend, capable of guiding by example.
• Proficiency with Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes and Kafka back end, and TypeScript/React front end.
• Experience designing services in microservices or domain-driven architectures and asynchronous event-driven communication (Kafka).
• Knowledge of CI/CD, containerisation and modern DevOps practices in daily delivery.
• Security best practices embedded in development workflows.
• Interest in AI-assisted development tooling to improve productivity and code quality.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver features across the platform with end-to-end ownership from design to deployment.
• Contribute to early-stage prototyping and infrastructure work for platform foundations.
• Shape technical direction by contributing to architectural decisions within your squad.
• Collaborate with Lead Engineer and product colleagues to align with squad goals.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing; support team growth.
• Participate in interviews and help ramp new engineers.
• Champion DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and observability; uphold security standards daily.
• Lead testing strategies and participate in incident management rotas.
