Job summary

Hippo is recruiting Senior Java Developers to join our Hippo Herd. Senior Java Developers work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support & maintain user-centred digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone.

You will act as a senior consultant providing technical expertise in software engineering practices, drive the team’s technical deliverables and mentor others across client projects, using a modern Java stack including Spring Boot, Docker/Kubernetes and cloud services.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal/written communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to varied audiences.
• Proven full development lifecycle experience delivering user-centred digital solutions.
• Strong Java stack experience including core Java, Spring and related tech.
• Experience with JavaScript libraries/frameworks (Node, React, Angular).
• Containerisation and cloud experience (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure).
• Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with Agile methods (Scrum, Kanban) and TDD.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical SME within the squad to deliver user-centred software based on business needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver client solutions.
• Design, implement and manage CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
• Present prototypes, solutions and progress to stakeholders clearly.
• Mentor peers and contribute to recruitment and team development.
• Promote Hippo’s Engineering Herd externally via blogs, workshops or talks.
