Job summary

The AMRC, part of the University of Sheffield, seeks a Senior IT Technician - Cyber Security to join the IT Support team in Catcliffe, Rotherham. You will respond to security tickets, implement controls, patch endpoints, and help maintain compliance.

Travel to other AMRC sites may occur; a full UK driving license is beneficial. You will work with the Cyber Security Manager, SOC, and IA teams to identify threats, drive automation, and maintain documentation and SOPs.

Qualifications

• An honours degree (or equivalent qualification or experience) in a related subject area.
• Experience delivering IT support in a security-led organisation.
• Windows and common mobile OS support for client deployment.
• Experience using vulnerability scanners (Tenable) to identify weaknesses and patch/remediate.
• Ability to write clear security-focused SOPs for IT staff.
• Understanding patching and information security principles relating to endpoint management via Intune or KACE.
• Ability to monitor multiple workstreams to align with AMRC priorities.
• Strong problem solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience in log analysis (SIEM) and investigating security breaches is desirable.
• Familiarity with Cyber Essentials Plus (CE+) controls is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Respond to security tickets within the AMRC IT Support team and focus on security responses.
• Identify and patch vulnerabilities across devices and endpoints.
• Assist in patching and remediating issues with critical infrastructure (on premise & cloud).
• Proactively refine security measures and countermeasures in response to evolving threats.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security Manager and University SOC to align tech and processes.
