Job summary

The University of Sheffield is recruiting for an Assistant Security Controller within the AMRC security function. You will bridge security protocols with daily business, assist with sign-off of internal security docs, and guide staff through vetting and background checks while maintaining discretion.

You will act as a central information hub for security enquiries and support accreditation activities, ensuring alignment with global standards and policy.

Qualifications

• Experience of maintaining accurate and detailed records in an electronic database with consideration of handling data in a sensitive and confidential way.
• Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to solve problems with an appreciation of short and long-term implications.
• Ability to assess and organise resources, plan and progress work activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively and seek appropriate colleagues for support.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a central information hub for general security enquiries and provide guidance on policy and best practice.
• Co-ordinate clearance enquiries, vetting and background checks for staff and project personnel.
• Assist with security documentation and project security management.
• Lead operational delivery of procedural changes to align with University policy.
• Support security audits, data governance, and risk mitigation activities.
