Job summary

University of Sheffield AMRC is seeking a Senior IT Technician - Cyber Security to join the IT Support team. You will focus on security tickets, vulnerability management, and implementing centralised security controls to safeguard end points.

You will work with the Cyber Security Manager and SOC to identify threats, patch vulnerabilities, and improve security posture. The role offers hybrid working from Catcliffe, Rotherham, with potential travel to other sites in the UK.

Qualifications

• Honours degree (or equivalent qualification or experience) in a related subject area.
• Experience in IT security, vulnerability management, and incident response.
• Familiarity with vulnerability scanners such as Tenable and patch management tooling.
• Experience with endpoint management and security controls (e.g., Intune, KACE).

Responsibilities

• Respond to IT security tickets and coordinate incident responses.
• Identify and patch vulnerabilities across devices and environments.
• Work with Cyber Security Manager to refine security measures and automate responses.
• Produce clear technical documentation and SOPs for IT staff.
• Engage with stakeholders to promote information security best practices.
• Support patching across on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
