Qualifications

• Proven machinist experience in heavy engineering or manufacturing.
• Milling experience, conventional or CNC.
• Read and interpret drawings and specs.
• Experience machining large, heavy, complex components.
• Tooling selection, cutting parameters, machining techniques.
• Work to tight tolerances with high quality.
• Use precision measuring/inspection equipment proficiently.
• Health and safety mindset in workshop environment.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Experience operating large-bed/heavy milling machines.
• CNC programming/editing experience.
• Familiar with Fanuc/Heidenhain/Siemens or similar CNC controls.
• Experience machining castings/forgings/fabrications/heavy components.
• Experience with stainless steel and challenging materials.
• Crane certification and lifting equipment experience.
• Engineering apprenticeship/NVQ/City & Guilds/BTEC or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate heavy milling machines to specs.
• Machine large components to tight tolerances and finishes.
• Read engineering drawings and work instructions.
• Select tooling, speeds, feeds for materials.
• Set datums and offsets; perform roughing and finishing.
• Inspect with micrometers, verniers, bore gauges.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy during production.
• Safely handle using overhead cranes where required.
• Troubleshoot machining issues to minimise downtime.
• Keep machinery, tooling and area clean and safe.
• Collaborate with colleagues to meet production schedules.
