Job summary

Forward Assist Recruitment is seeking a skilled Machine Tool Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) in Sheffield to maintain and repair large traditional and CNC machine tools.

You'll diagnose mechanical faults, strip and rebuild machinery, service bearings, gearboxes and hydraulic systems, and support upgrades across heavy equipment while maintaining safe production standards. A strong apprenticeship or engineering qualification is required.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical maintenance experience on heavy machinery.
• Experience repairing and rebuilding heavy machinery.
• Knowledge of CNC or traditional machine tools.
• Experience with vertical borers, lathes, machining centres or similar equipment.
• Hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes and mechanical drive knowledge.
• Some electrical fault-finding capability.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform preventive and reactive maintenance on heavy machine tools and CNC equipment.
• Strip down, rebuild and repair machinery components.
• Inspect bearings, gearboxes, shafts and drive systems for wear.
• Work with hydraulics and lubrication systems.
