RE Recruitment is seeking an experienced Machinist to join a well-established engineering business in the United Kingdom. You will operate manual centre lathes and other workshop machinery to produce precision shafts, housings and impellers, following engineering drawings and tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Machine new and used components to precise tolerances using manual centre lathes and other workshop equipment.
  • Machining cast components such as impellers, pump parts and housings.
  • Work with CNC lathes where required and perform general milling.
  • Follow drawings and design tolerances with high attention to detail.
  • Maintain housekeeping, safety standards and cooperate with the team.

Machinist

Are you an experienced Machinist with strong conventional machining skills and experience working with engineering drawings?

We are recruiting for an experienced Machinist to join a well-established engineering business. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled, time-served engineer who enjoys precision machining and working with a wide range of components and rotating equipment.

The Role

You will be responsible for machining new and used components to precise engineering tolerances, primarily using manual centre lathes, alongside other workshop machinery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating manual centre lathes to manufacture shafts, sleeves, spacers and similar components
  • Machining cast components such as impellers, bearing housings and pump casings
  • Using CNC lathes where required
  • General milling, including keyways and slots
  • Operating slotting machinery and vertical borers
  • Machining valve bodies, pump bowls and pump casings
  • Balancing and machining impellers
  • Removing and replacing case wear rings and bushes
  • Measuring components accurately and working to engineering drawings and design tolerances
  • Reverse engineering worn or damaged components using measurements and engineering principles
  • Supporting workshop fitting and occasional site activities
  • Working closely with colleagues to deliver a high-quality service to customers
  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping and workshop standards
  • Following all health and safety procedures and company policies
About You

We are looking for an experienced Machinist who has:

  • A time-served craft apprenticeship or equivalent machine shop training
  • Strong experience using conventional lathes, drills and milling machines
  • Experience machining components accurately to engineering drawings
  • Confidence using a range of measuring equipment
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge or experience of rotating equipment, ideally pumps
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An organised and methodical approach
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to work independently and use your own initiative
  • A full, valid driving licence
