Job summary

A principal contractor is seeking a Senior Estimator based in Exeter. The position is primarily remote with occasional office attendance. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with project costs, working with tender processes, and providing cost plans through all design stages. Candidates should have proven experience in estimating, knowledge of construction methods, and strong skills in interpreting technical drawings. The salary is £75,000, with flexible working hours.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with framework and two-stage estimating.
• Knowledge of multiple construction methods.
• Ability to manage costs, timelines, and quality to targets.
• Strong skills in interpreting drawings and technical specifications.
• High level of mathematical competence.

Responsibilities

• Ensure project costs comply with scope, client requirements, and legislation.
• Work with the preconstruction team to secure and convert tenders.
• Produce accurate, robust cost plans through all design stages to target price.
• Advise the design team and client on affordability.
• Identify risks, opportunities, and value-adding solutions.
• Cost and track design changes through RIBA stages.
• Complete or manage detailed take-offs.
• Provide full cost-substantiation packs at handover.
• Coordinate with design leads for tender summaries.
• Assess the cost and impact of design changes and alternative solutions.
