Job summary

AECOM in London, Aldgate Tower, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to deliver cutting-edge energy storage and grid connection designs. The role is hybrid and focuses on large BESS projects across the UK and Europe, with opportunities to influence the energy transition.

You will lead FEED and detailed design for renewable/storage schemes, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and clients, while supporting bidding and project quality efforts.

Qualifications

• A Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience as a FEED designer, detailed design or owner’s engineer.
• Good understanding of renewable generation and energy storage tech, especially battery storage.
• Experience designing HV grid connections, metering and control requirements for storage.
• Experience in consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer or utility sectors.
• Knowledge of grid connection requirements (G99, G100) and grid codes.
• Familiarity with transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV protection and control.
• Experience with software tools listed above (AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT).
• Knowledge of emerging technologies (hybrid systems, grid forming inverters, LDES).
• Strong teamwork and client-facing mindset.

Responsibilities

• Work on large projects and frameworks with renewable energy developers, mainly UK/Ireland and some global projects.
• Undertake FEED, planning feasibility and design of energy storage systems and grid connections.
• Support bidding, project and quality management activities.
• Design the BESS balance of plant (BOP) systems.
• Develop grid connection solutions from 11kV to 400kV for storage and renewables.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver solutions.
• Assist the team with bidding and quality management.
