Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to deliver cutting-edge designs for energy storage, solar and grid connection projects. The role focuses on renewables and energy storage, including BESS, with opportunities on large UK and European projects.

The successful candidate will work within the DCS group on FEED, planning and detailed design, developing HV grid connections (11kV-400kV) and BESS BOPs, while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

A Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
Suitable experience working in a FEED designer, detailed design or owner’s engineer role.
A good understanding of both renewable generation and energy storage technology in general and, in particular, battery storage technology of all types and chemistries.
Experience designing the HV grid connection, metering, control requirements etc. associated with battery storage installations, including BESS collocated with renewable energy generation.
Previous experience with consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer or electrical utility in the energy sector.
Knowledge of grid connection requirements for renewable generation and energy storage, including G99, G100 and grid code requirements for transmission connected assets.
A good understanding of electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV Protection & Control
Experience with software tools (AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT).
Knowledge of emerging technologies (Hybrid systems-grid forming inverters, LDES and alternative battery technology).
A good team player with a client-focused mindset and customer facing skills.

Responsibilities

Work on large projects and frameworks with renewable energy generation developers, mostly in UK and Ireland but also with some global projects.
Undertake Front End Engineering Design (FEED), design for planning, feasibility studies etc. of energy storage systems including associated grid connections, control and metering.
Provide support and gain exposure to bidding, project and quality management.
Design the BESS balance of plant (BOP) systems.
Develop grid connection solutions (11kV-400kV) for energy storage and renewables.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative solutions.
Support the team with bidding, project and quality management.
